Mice homozygous for a targeted null mutation show impaired hepatocyte development followed by embryonic liver degeneration, generalized edema, and death at ~14 days of gestation. Mutant embryonic fibroblasts show increased susceptibility to the cytotoxiceffects of cadmium and hydrogen peroxide.
