Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit reduced serum interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor levels following LPS treatment, and decreased susceptibility to experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis along with decreased T-helper 17 cell number and increased IFN-gamma producing T cell number.
