Homozygous null mutants die at birth of respiratory failure with underdeveloped lungs, enlarged adrenals, elevated serum corticosterone and ACTH, and failed adrenaline synthesis. Mice with a point mutation have impaired gluconeogenesis and erythropoiesis.
