Homozygotes for a null allele exhibit obesity, increased respiratory quotient on a high fat diet, and reduced energy expenditure. Homozygotes for another null allele show reduced lean mass, increased fat mass, diet-induced obesity, increased insulin and leptin levels, and reduced energy expenditure.
