Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to postnatal lethality, reduced plasma renin level, decreased mean arterial pressure, and kidney defects such as atrophy, altered juxtaglomerular cell and macula densa morphology, polyuria, decreased urine osmolality, and reduced glomerular filtration rate.
