Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show failure to thrive, short life span, telomere shortening, skin hyperpigmentation, alopecia, tongue hyperkeratosis, aplastic anemia, cerebellar hypoplasia, bone marrow failure, thymic atrophy, neurologic defects, retinal degeneration, and decreased cell proliferation along with apoptosis induction and increased inflammation in several organs.
