Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality during organogenesis due to abnormal gastrulation and embryonic patterning in the brain and heart. Mice heterozygous for another knock-out allele exhibit female-specific lethality, reduced male fertility and abnormal gonadotrophs.
