Homozygous null mice fail to breathe and die at birth exhibiting a narrow thoracic cage, irregularly mineralized sternum, cleft secondary palate, and delayed bone mineralization. Homozygotes for a transposon induced insertion die shortly after birth exhibiting cyanosis and respiratory distress.
