Homozygous expression of a phosphorylation-deficient mutant in alveolar type II (AT2) cells leads to lung fibrosis, reduced lung compliance and forced vital lung capacity and reduced number of alveolar type I (AT1) cells after lung injury. Homozygous expression of a phosphomimetic mutant in AT2 cells leads to reduced morbidity after lung injury.
