Notes

24 BXD recombinant inbred (RI) strains were analyzed for loci associated with resistance to TNF-induced lethal shock. Parental strain DBA/2J is resistant to TNF-induced lethal shock whereas parental strain C57BL/6J is susceptible.

A locus named Tnfp (tumor necrosis factor protection) mapped to 54 cM on mouse Chromosome 12 with highest significant linkage to lethality at Serpina6 (LOD=6.9). Tnfp is also linked to Serpina3kr, Serpina3K (LOD=3.3), and Sperina1. Tnfp also showed association with TNF-inducedhypothermia and elevated serum IL-6. DBA/2J-derived alleles confer dominantly-inherited protection from TNF-induced lethal shock.

A locus showing suggestive linkage to TNF-induced hypothermia mapped to mouse Chromosome 2 near Pmv3 (23 cM).
