Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to partial postnatal lethality, altered blood homeostasis, reduced urine osmolality, polyuria, hypovolemia, hypotension, increased bone turnover and striking skeletal deformities. Spontaneous and ENU-induced mutations cause a skeletal-overgrowth phenotype.
