Homozygotes for a targeted null mutation exhibit severe dwarfism due to impaired endochondral ossification. Mutants are viable at birth, but fewer than half survive postnatal development. Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal secondarysensory axon bifurcation.
