Homozygotes for a null allele show increased IgA level and alterations in IgA transport and in susceptibility to viral and parasitic infections. Homozygotes for another null allele show increased IgA level, decreased IgM level, reduced numbers of IgM plasma cells, and impaired IgM immune responses.
