Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit impaired mammary myoepithelial cell differentiation and fail to eject milk and productively nurse their offspring. Mice homozygous for another null allele show partial embryonic lethality caused by myocardial necrosis as well as mammary gland dysfunction.
