Approximately 60% of mice homozygous for a targeted mutation exhibit postnatal lethality. Males are infertile and display small testes and arrested differentiation of round spermatids into spermatozoa, as shown by the absence of acrosomes, elongated nuclei, and morphological signs of polarization.
