Mice homozygous for a gene trap allele exhibit increased osteoporosis in response to pregnancy or castration in the absence of dietary ascorbate. Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit reduced asorbic acid levels and DL-glyceraldehyde, glucuronolactone and glucuronate reductase activity.
