Targeted null mice are viable and developmentally normal but show increased susceptibility to L. monocytogenes challenge, as shown by increased mortality and bacterial burden in liver/spleen early post-infection. Mutant neutrophils fail to respond to fMLF either in calcium flux or chemotaxis assays.
