Mice homozygous for null mutations in this gene are embryonic lethal during mid-gestation with aborted neurogenesis and abnormal mitochondria. Mice heterozygous for a null allele exhibit extended lifespan with mitochondrial dysfunction and altered inner and outer membrane ubiquinone levels.
