Mice homozygous for a null allele are viable but show a mild growth defect early in life, increased radiosensitivity, and reduced lung tumor development in response to oncogenic KRAS. Mouse embryonic fibroblasts exhibit higher p53 levels and premature senescence after DNA damage and replicative stress.
