Mutant mice lacking the A and B isoforms are viable and one line shows enhanced regeneration and recovery after spinal cord injury. Different lines of mice lacking isoforms A, B, and C show varying phenotypes. Whereas some produce viable homozygotes, others are embryonic lethal.
