Homozygous null mice show limited fetal growth, reduced serum IGF2 levels, pulmonary hypoplasia and early neonatal death. About 40% of newborns die of acute respiratory failure exhibiting delayed lung maturation, reduced sacculation, atelectasis, and impaired type II pneumocyte differentiation.
