Homozygotes for a null allele show impaired nurturing behavior, altered behavioral tolerance to repeated motor seizures, reduced NMDA-mediated synaptic currents, and altered paradoxical sleep. Aging mice homozygous for another null allele may exhibit occasional tonic-clonic or generalized seizures.
