Homozygotes for a gene trapped allele die throughout fetal growth and development showing pallor and altered placental labyrinth vasculature. Most homozygotes for a null allele die in utero; survivors show male infertility, impaired spermatogenesis, increased testis apoptosis and azoospermia.
