Homozygotes for a null allele show spatial memory deficits. Under a high-fat diet, homozygous deletion of exon 1 results in increased insulin sensitivity, improved glucose tolerance, increased respiratory exchange ratio, decreased inflammatory marker gene expression, and reduced adipocyte size.
