Homozygous null mice exhibit some perinatal lethality and survivors appear smaller. On certain genetic backgrounds, heterozygous X/Y mice may develop as phenotypic females or hermaphrodites. The sex-reversal phenotype is dependent on a combination of strain-specific autosomal and Y-linked alleles.
