Nullizygous mice show impaired transepithelial transport of dimeric IgA, increased serum IgA levels and mucosal leakiness. Studies of one null allele show increased susceptibility to mycobacterial infections while another allele causes impaired clearanceof the protozoan parasite Giardia.
