Mice homozygous for a conditional allele activated in vascular smooth muscle exhibit exacerbated neointima formation and increased vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation following left carotid artery ligation. Mice homozygous for an exon 1 and promoter deletion with induced atherosclerosis show more advanced lesions.
