Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit decreased embryo size, a rudimentary egg cylinder, failure of primitive streak formation, absent primitive node and head folds, failure to gastrulate, abnormal mitochondrial morphology and physiology, and complete lethality prior to organogenesis.
