The authors sequenced the BAC 43P19 to isentify the transcription units and regulatory sequences surronding the Sox10 interval. Approximately 170kb of sequence data was generated. this was compared with public databases to reveal matching sequences. Several genes and ESYs were identified. The order of these markers was not determined. The markers mapping to the Sox10 interval on mouse Chromosome 15 were: D15Mit260 - H1f0 - Galr3 - D15N1e - Polr2f - Gcat - EST1068184 - EST820961 - EST475269 - Triobp -Rhoip3 - ESTJ0827E04 - EST478828 - EST974366. It is unlikely that each of the ESTs represents a unique transcription unit. Further studies are on to determine the overlap of these ESTs within the transcription units in the interval. Comparison of this sequence with the sequence from the same interval on the syntenic human Chromosome 22 identified homologous human markers demonstrating conservation between the two species in the Dominant megacolon - Sox10 interval.
