(A,B,H) Double immunostained sections of E10.5 wild-type (WT) (A), Pax3^Cre;Smo^CKO (B), and Myf5^cre;Smo^fl/fl (H) embryos. Apoptotic cells were counted in the epaxial/medial and hypaxial dermomyotome (white and yellow arrowheads, respectively). (I,J) Wholemount in situ hybridization at E12.5 revealed that the distal myocytes in the Myf5^Cre; Smo^CKO mutant limb (J) did not extend as distally as those in the wild-type limb (I) (cf. blue and red lines). Bar in J: A,B, 300 um; H, 200 um; I,J, 440 um.
