digestive/alimentary system
• while mice develop polyps, their number is reduced in the distal end of the small intestine but not in the proximal and middle parts, compared to single heterozygous ApcMin mice
• in the distal intestine, the fraction of polyps that are 0.3 to 1 mm in size is increased and those that are 2-3 mm is decreased compared to that in single heterozygous ApcMin mice
• mice exhibit a lower ratio of BrdU staining polyps indicating reduced cell proliferation and higher apoptosis than in single heterozygous ApcMin mice
• the number of polyps is reduced in the small intestine compared to single heterozygous ApcMin mice, but no difference in polyp number is seen in the colon at 5 months of age
• the distal end of the small intestine shows the reduced number of polyps while the proximal and middle parts of the intestine show a similar number of polyps as single heterozygous ApcMin mice
• mice have a higher proportion of low-grade adenoma and a lower proportion of high-grade adenoma, but no difference in the rate of adenocarcinoma compared to single heterozygous ApcMin mice
