reproductive system
• reduction in the number of primary spermatocytes
• increase in apoptosis of spermatocytes
• number of TRA98+ germ cells is reduced
• germ cells begin to decline starting from P12, when zygotene spermatocytes predominate in the seminiferous tubules; no differences in the numbers of undifferentiated spermatogonia, differentiating spermatogonia, or total spermatogonia but a reduction in numbers of spermatocytes
• complete absence of sperm in the epididymis
• non-obstructive azoospermia
• complete absence of both round and elongated spermatids
• pachytene-like spermatocytes show defective crossover formation
• spermatocytes exhibit incomplete meiotic recombination
• increase in apoptosis levels in testes
• severe seminiferous tubule disorganization with extensive vacuolization
• reduction in testis size and testis-to-body weight ratio in 8-week-old mice
• although meiosis is initiated and spermatocytes are seen, no postmeiotic germ cells are detected, indicating meiotic arrest
• arrest of the first wave of spermatogenesis at the zygotene spermatocyte stage of prophase I of meiosis
• 8-week-old males are completely sterile

endocrine/exocrine glands
• increase in apoptosis levels in testes
• severe seminiferous tubule disorganization with extensive vacuolization
• reduction in testis size and testis-to-body weight ratio in 8-week-old mice

homeostasis/metabolism
• autosomal DNA damage repair is impaired during pachytene and causes meiotic arrest at the zygotene stage

cellular

• spermatocyte numbers are decreased
• number of total germ cells (TRA98+) is reduced in testes
• germ cells begin to decline starting from P12, when zygotene spermatocytes predominate in the seminiferous tubules

• seminiferous tubules are severely disorganized, accompanied by extensive vacuolization
