cardiovascular system
• endothelial cells in the retina show a decrease in filopodia number, suggesting decreased motility of endothelial sprouts
• P5 retinal vasculature shows a slight, but significant, decrease in vascular outgrowth
• however, no differences in retinal endothelial cell proliferation or in density of retinal vasculature are seen and no difference in endothelial cell sprout number in retinas is seen, indicating normal tip-stalk cell specification
• mice inoculated with Lewis lung carcinoma cells or melanoma cells on the flanks show a 30% decrease in vessel density, however no differences in tumor growth are seen, indicating decreased tumor angiogenesis
• P5 retinal vasculature shows a slight but significant decrease in vascular outgrowth, indicating impaired angiogenesis
• endothelial cells are less responsive to VEGF-A
• VEGF-A165-induced vascular permeability is reduced
• however, histamine and VEGF-A121 vascular permeability is undistinguishable from wild-type mice
