N normal phenotype
cellular
• disruption of paraspeckle formation in MEFs and in esophageal epithelial cells, forestomach epithelial cells, and surface mucous cells in zymogenic stomach all of which express high levels of the long transcript in wild-type mice

mortality/aging
N
• despite disruption of paraspeckle formation, mice are viable and fertile

digestive/alimentary system
N
• despite disruption of paraspeckle formation, gross stomach histological organization is normal

integument
• at mid-gestation (8.5 and 12.5 days post-coitum)
• however, proliferation at the start of pregnancy is normal
• paraspeckles are absent in mammary glands of virgin mice
• reduced milk-producing epithelial cell number at day 2 of lactation
• however, cell size is normal
• reduced branching at all virgin adult time points
• abnormal branching morphogenesis and aberrant ductal extension at early stages of puberty
• decreased density of ducts by the end of puberty with reduced number of secondary branch points and increased interbranch distance
• however, primary and secondary ducts reach the distal edge of the fat pad
• fewer alveoli in lactating dams with reduced milk-producing epithelial cell number at day 2 of lactation
• partial loss of cytoplasmic droplets indicative of active milk secretion
• however, mice exhibit normal milk production and secretion

growth/size/body
• in pups at 3.5 and 6 weeks
• however, pups fostered by wild-type dams exhibit normal weight gain

behavior/neurological
• pups that survive beyond 5 days after birth have smaller amounts of milk in their stomachs compared with wild-type mice

cellular
• at mid-gestation (8.5 and 12.5 days post-coitum)
• however, proliferation at the start of pregnancy is normal
• a minority of pups survive beyond day 5 after birth and exhibit reduced body weight
• however, pups fostered by wild-type dams exhibit normal survival and body weight

endocrine/exocrine glands
• at mid-gestation (8.5 and 12.5 days post-coitum)
• however, proliferation at the start of pregnancy is normal
• paraspeckles are absent in mammary glands of virgin mice
