• the amount of insulin secreted by beta-islet cells in response to glucose is much less with a 70% reduction in the amount secreted in response to 20 mmol glucose
• circulating insulin levels are significantly lower 10 to 30 minutes after a glucose challenge
• these mice have impaired glucose tolerance with glucose levels significantly higher 60 minutes after glucose administration
