• decreased compared to controls; however, this decrease is less than that in homozygous null mice
• significant decrease in the number of DN4 cells suggesting a partial block in development between the DN3 and DN4 stages
• slight but significant reduction in CD4+ cell numbers in the thymus, although not as large as in homozygous null mice
• cell numbers in the spleen and lymph nodes are similar to controls
• significant reduction in CD5 and CD2 expression, although not as much as in homozygous null mice
• reduced T cell receptor-induced calcium fluxes, although not as much as in homozygous null mice
• reduced CD4+ cell proliferation in response to anti-CD3 alone or anti-CD3 plus anti-CD28; however proliferation is increased compared to homozygous null mice and proliferation of CD8+ cells is similar to controls
