mortality/aging

growth/size/body
• homozygotes are smaller by P3 and become more runted with time so that by day 9, body weights are only about 20% those of wild-type
• by P9, body weight is only about 20% that of wild-type

homeostasis/metabolism
• display a progressive decrease of glucose levels
• corticosterone levels at P4 are much higher than in wild-type

immune system
• bone marrow shows reduced percentages of B220+IgM- B lineage precursor cells
• fetal liver cells from day 14 homozygotes can reconstitute all hematopoietic lineages in lethally irradiated mice, although there is a reduction in B lineage precursors in the bone marrow
• exhibit a progressive depletion of all lineages of white cells in the periphery
• by day 7, only a few percent of the normal number of thymocytes is recovered from homozygotes
• exhibit a reduction in CD4+CD8+ double positive thymocytes
• spleen is smaller and by day 7 after birth, the spleen is rudimentary, with a cellularity only about 1% that of wild-type, however the structure remains intact
• the T-dependent immune response to NP15-CG is defective in lethally irradiated mice reconstituted with homozygous fetal liver cells, however the T-independent immune response to NP-Ficoll is normal
• lethally irradiated mice reconstituted with homozygous mutant liver cells exhibit impaired immune response to T-dependent antigens
