Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit branchial arch defects, enlarged hearts, slight epicardial edema, incomplete embryo turning, placentation defects, and complete lethality during organogenesis. A minority exhibit embryonic growth retardation, abnormal head shape, and incomplete rostral neuropore closure while some have yolk sac vascularization defects.
