Homozygous inactivation of this gene causes male infertility associated with decreased testis weight, azoospermia, defective spermiogenesis at the beginning of spermatid elongation, increased male germ cell apoptosis, disturbed protease homeostasis, and an orchitis-like inflammatory response in round spermatids.
