Mice homozygous for a null mutation die perinatally with pulmonary atelectasis, in the absence of brain abnormalities, signs of seizures or other behavioral manifestations. Heterozygous mice appear behaviorally normal but exhibit a hypersensitivity to the epileptic inducer pentylenetetrazole.
