Mice homozygous for a reporter allele display abnormal cervical vertebrae. Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal nociceptor innervation of the skin, aberrant nociceptor axonal projections in the spinal cord, and deficits in pain sensitivity.
