Homozygous null mutants display reduced growth and develop age-dependent osteopenia. Age-related osteoporosis is associated with defects in bone marrow stromal cells, including increased apoptosis, reduced numbers of colony-forming units-fibroblastic (CFU-F), and decreased collagen production.
