Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to neonatal lethality, abnormal posture, thin diaphragm muscle, abnormal skeletal muscle morphology characterized by centralized nuclei and disorganized myofibrils, and impaired skeletal muscle contractility due to defective excitation-contraction coupling.
