Homozygous null mice are growth retarded and die at midgestation with defects in neural tube closure, vasculogenesis and placental development. Mutant visceral yolk sac endoderm cells exhibit altered endocytic compartments, abundant autophagic vacuoles and mislocalization of endocytic markers.
