Homozygous inactivation of this gene causes complete embryonic lethality during organogenesis, associated with reduced expression of genes implicated in the cubilin-megalin multi-ligand endocytic receptor complex. Homozygous null MEFs show defects in receptor-mediated endocytosis and recycling.
