Mice homozygous for a null mutation display salt sensitive hypertension and high salt diet induced cardiac hypertrophy. A spontaneous mutation results in overt diabetes insipidus. Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit neonatal lethality with primary atelectasis.
