Targeted inactivation of this gene causes male subfertility, oligozoospermia, teratozoospermia, athenozoospermia, abnormal seminiferous tubules, and reduced testis weight on congenic but not on mixed strain backgrounds. Decreased brown fat tissue amount and enhanced skeletal muscle formation are also observed.
