Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality while heterozygotes exhibit increased susceptibility to DSS-induced colitis associated with increased endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Homozygous deficiency in colonic organoids results in unresolved ER stress and apoptosis.
