Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit increased adiposity, hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance, impaired insulin secretion, and altered energy intake and expenditure when fed a high-fat diet. Mice homozygous for a different null allele develop thyroid adenomas and ovarian carcinomas.
