Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to increased lean body mass and altered adipocyte lipolysis, leptin production and susceptibility to diet-induced obesity. Increased oxygen and food consumption, impaired cold adaptation, and altered glucose and blood homeostasis have also been observed.
